Reimagining Kandinsky: Light & Virtual Dimensions
This project explores Wassily Kandinsky’s abstract vision through contemporary technology, using projection mapping and virtual reality to transform his paintings into immersive experiences.
Kandinsky saw painting as a form of music—colors and shapes creating harmony and emotional resonance. His compositions were influenced by his belief that art could express deep, non-material meanings, much like a symphony.
As a key figure in the Bauhaus movement, Kandinsky explored the psychological and expressive power of color and form, influencing generations of artists. His work Composition II (1923) exemplifies his approach, blending structure and spontaneity to create dynamic visual harmony.

Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944) A pioneer of Abstract Art, was a groundbreaking artist and theorist, known as one of the pioneers of abstract art. Moving away from traditional representation, he developed a visual language based on geometric forms, rhythmic lines, and vibrant colors.
Painting with Light: Kandinsky in Public Space
Kandinsky’s abstract compositions are projected onto a monumental sculpture in a public space. The projection mapping technique allows his geometric shapes and rhythmic structures to interact with the physical world, creating a dialogue between painting, sculpture, and light.

Stepping Inside Kandinsky’s World
The immersive experience of VR enhances the connection between the viewer and the artwork, transforming Kandinsky’s abstract language into a lived experience. Inside the virtual space, Kandinsky’s geometric shapes and vibrant colors become an explorable environment, breaking the boundaries between observer and artwork. Instead of merely looking at his compositions, participants step inside them, navigating through an abstract world where movement and perspective shape the experience.

Together, these two approaches create a dynamic fusion of Kandinsky’s vision with modern technology, allowing his abstract forms to transcend the canvas and exist within both the physical and virtual worlds.
By merging physical and virtual realms, this project extends Kandinsky’s pursuit of abstraction into an interactive, immersive experience—offering a new way to engage with his timeless artistic vision.
